USL League Two Completes Wichita Expansion

TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League (USL) today announced FC Wichita as the latest club to join USL League Two. The club will compete in the Heartland Division, and will make a determination in the near future on whether it will play its inaugural League Two season in 2021 or 2022.

“FC Wichita is truly a top-notch organization both on and off the field,” said USL League Two Vice President Joel Nash. “I’m very excited to welcome them to League Two, and confident that the team will make an excellent addition to the Heartland Division.”

Founded in 2013, the club quickly found success on the field, finishing first in the National Premier Soccer League’s Heartland Conference in 2015, 2017 and 2018. The club plays its home matches at Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita, with a capacity of more than 5,000 fans.

In addition to the club’s senior team in League Two, FC Wichita will also begin integrating its top local talent into the USL Academy platform, solidifying the pathway from the grassroots level to senior team soccer in its community. Specifics around the club fielding teams in USL Academy competitions will be announced at a later date.

“The USL and League Two have long proven to be the pathway to professional soccer for aspiring players,” said FC Wichita Owner Blake Shumaker. “We’re excited for the opportunity to use that path as an extension of our club, and of course to continue building the professional pyramid in Wichita.”

In joining League Two, FC Wichita will offer a proven platform for its players striving to play professional soccer. On top of the valuable experience of playing in the nation’s most competitive pre-professional environment, League Two also provides growth opportunities for its coaches, executives and communities.
